Latourell Falls
Latourell Falls offers a breathtaking experience for visitors exploring the Columbia River Gorge. A short walk beneath the historic 1914 bridge leads to the base of Lower Latourell Falls, where water plunges an impressive 224 feet over striking columnar basalt formations. The falls are adorned with vibrant chartreuse-colored lichen, creating a vivid contrast against the dark basalt and adding a unique touch to the already stunning landscape. For those looking to immerse themselves further, a loop trail provides views of both the lower and upper falls, weaving through lush forests and offering serene moments with nature. Whether youโre snapping photos of the dramatic drop, marveling at the vibrant lichen, or simply enjoying the sound of rushing water, Latourell Falls is a must-see destination in the Gorge.
Fun Facts About Latourell Falls
Latourell Falls drops over a single wall of columnar basalt, some of the cleanest basalt column formations in the Gorge.
A patch of bright yellow-green lichen colors the cliff beside the falls and is one of its most photographed details.
The falls sit inside Guy W. Talbot State Park, named for the man who donated the land to Oregon in 1929.
