Bridal Veil Falls
Bridal Veil Falls is a hidden gem along the Historic Columbia River Highway, offering a stunning display of natural beauty and rich history. The falls gracefully cascade under the highway’s historic 1914 bridge, tumbling over moss-covered basalt rocks in two tiers for a combined drop of approximately 120 feet. As you explore the area, keep an eye out for remnants of its past as a bustling mill site. A dike and a human-made creek still hint at the ingenuity of its mill days, alongside fragments of old buildings. The most prominent relic is a weathered corrugated iron shed, the sole surviving structure of this bygone era. Surrounded by lush greenery, the trail to the falls is short and accessible, making it an ideal stop for nature enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone seeking a moment of tranquility amidst the Gorge’s timeless charm.
Fun Facts About Bridal Veil Falls
The falls' shape has changed over time. The upper tier used to be 30 feet taller before debris filled the gap between the two drops.
It's the only Gorge waterfall that drops below the highway. Every other major falls sits above or level with the road.
Bridal Veil Falls sits inside a former lumber mill site, now preserved as a state park with two short trails, one to the falls and one to river views.
